The Reliquary system replaces the old linear battle pass with multiple themed Reliquaries. Players earn Favor Tokens through gameplay to Diablo IV Gold unlock cosmetics and other rewards. However, every reward can also be bought with Platinum, Diablo 4’s premium currency, and the UI strongly pushes players toward spending real money.

One Reddit user, Loika, exposed a key problem: rewards that can be claimed with Favor Tokens are also available for Platinum purchase, with the paid option placed prominently on the screen. For example, an armor set costs 15 tokens or 750 Platinum (about $7.50). The Platinum purchase button lacks a confirmation prompt, making accidental spending easy, especially for players unfamiliar with the system.

Console players are at even greater risk. A Reddit post noted that the controller button used to claim rewards switches mid-transaction to buying with Platinum, increasing chances of unintentional purchases. This confusing input flow was confirmed by GameSpot.

The pricing structure complicates things further. Individual premium Reliquaries cost 500 Platinum each, or 1,500 Platinum for all three. A “Battle Pass Bundle” offers all three for 1,000 Platinum, a better deal. But if a player buys one Reliquary individually before the bundle, they lose access to the discount for the others, forcing full-price purchases.

The Deluxe Bundle, priced at 2,800 Platinum (nearly $28), adds a pet and wings to the same armor set from the standard bundle. Many players feel the extras don’t justify the high price, questioning the value.

Blizzard acknowledged community feedback during a Campfire Chat livestream, promising to review but not immediately change the system. Adam Fletcher, director of social and content marketing, said on Reddit that Reliquary was meant to offer content for Buy Diablo 4 materials all players, and future crossovers would provide better value. This comes after criticism of the Berserk crossover, which many deemed overpriced and lacking substance.
